Along with its special paint treatment, graphics, wheels, and more, this would be among the last of the Trans Ams offered with the  “6.6 litre” As a collectible car from the 1970s, the anniversary Trans Am stands out in terms of desirability and value. The big news in '79 was the anniversary Trans Am in a never-before-seen silver-and-charcoal scheme with a "super bird" on the hood—so called because its wing tips extended onto the tops of the front fenders. A new cast-aluminum turbo wheel design measuring 15 x 8 inches was employed. Inside, floor-to-ceiling silver-and-gray tones echoed the exterior. Special red lighting for the instruments, inspired by aircraft, was also part of the deal.the 7,500 anniversary cars built, 1,817 had the 400/T-10 combo. 5,683 were 403/Autos like this one. Popular price guides tack on a premium for the special edition and currently value the car at $86,000 on the high end, with an average of $52,000. The anniversary Trans Ams were loaded with virtually every option and stickered north of $10,000 in 1979. Anniversary edition Trans Ams came standard with the WS6 Special Performance Package, which included stiffer springs, a .75- inch rear anti-roll bar (up from .625), nylon end-link bushings for the 1.25- inch front anti-roll bar, firmer shocks, a fixed 14:1 ratio steering box, and rear disc brakes. 4 wheel disc brakes were very rare in 1979. the 6.6 Litre 403 Oldsmobile with a Turbo Hydra-Matic 350. The Olds engine and TH350 are both reliable and move the anniversary Trans Am with authority.The rear axle used in the anniversary Trans Ams was the 8.5-inch 10-bolt rear with 2.73:1 gears behind the automatic, or 3.23:1 gears with the four-speed. Limited slip was standard issue with either. The GM 10-bolt is one of the most ubiquitous and easily serviced axles of this era. They're tough too, especially for street car use, and have developed a following as a low-dollar axle for drag racers.The cockpits of the anniversary cars were decked out in silver and gray. Seats were covered in silver vinyl with matching leather inserts, while the back seat cover sported an embroidered Firebird logo that matched those on the door panels. A fat leather-wrapped Formula wheel was also part of the package, as were red lighting for the instruments and a premium sound system. All of the anniversary Trans Ams were built with T-top bodies and outfitted with silver-tinted roof panels.This car is priced right to move quickly at $39,900
